Girls, I hope you are all fine. Do you remember that I organised a bachelorette workshop for my best friend’s wedding? Well it was such a success that my friends asked for more. So I organised a new workshop on homemade skin care: what to make with coconut cream. I have bought lots of new essential oils such as patchouli vanilla and bergamot. And we made some new awesome recipes mainly based on coconut cream!
Coconut oil has a lot of benefits. If I may just sum up a few:
- It contains a lot of anti-oxidants;
- It slows down aging;
- It contains a lot of vitamin E;
- It is very safe to use on small children and babies;
- It is a natural way of protecting your skin from free radicals.
Why is making your own skin care products not only fun but also very useful? Well, as I explained in my previous blog post, we live in a toxic world. It is part of our modern lifestyle, where we are exposed to so many chemicals that exist all around us, from the air we breathe to the chemicals we use daily in our own homes. It comes with many benefits, but we also have to pay a big price for living in this toxic world. Our skin, being our biggest organ, deserves the best. We can contribute to a healthier lifestyle by using 100% natural skin care products. I have already stopped using skin care products that contain Parabens, instead using my own homemade skin care products makes my skin feel healthier and more nourished. No Parabens, no other preservatives or extra chemicals, mainly natural ingredients!
That said, you have to be careful with essential oils, which are very concentrated. You should only add a few drops per 100 milliliter. Only when diluted right, these oils are safe to apply for your skin. I recommend 5-10 drops of essential oil per 100 ml. It’s the same like coffee; I read on a website, it would not be very healthy to drink 100 cups of pure coffee in a short time. You would end up in the hospital after such an excessive amount. Only the right amount is beneficial to our health and wellness.
So there we were experimenting with so many ingredients in my living room. It is great to work with energetic creative women. These women definitely know what to make with coconut cream! We learn from each other but also get to know each other a little better. We are all new in Haifa (Israel). Some of us came to be with their partner (as I did), while others made a personal decision to live in Israel. What we have in common is that we all have to reinvent ourselves as our degrees have a different value here. I see it as a challenge which will bring new opportunities. Out of our comfort zone we should grow, shouldn’t we?
What to make with coconut cream? Please see the recipes below:
This time many of the girls experimented with dark and light brown sugar. Jenny made an interesting scrub. She used:
- 40 ml dark brown sugar
- 40 ml light brown sugar
- One (big) spoon honey
- One pump wheat germ oil
- One spoon coconut oil
- 2 tea spoons of fresh cinnamon powder
- Few drops of almond oil with the scent of vanilla patchouli
She mixed it in a plastic bowl with a wooden spoon until it became a solid substance.
Lilach loves the scent of vanilla patchouli and discovered an easy recipe to make a lovely whipped body butter.
- 100 ml coconut cream
- 3 small tea spoons of almond oil with the scent of vanilla patchouli
These ingredients need to be whipped up with a hand whisk for a few minutes until it becomes a creamy whipped substance.
Lilach also made a citrus hand cream:
- 100 ml coconut cream
- 5 drops orange oil
- 5 drops lemon grass oil
- 1 spoon honey
Janneke loved her sea salt scrub
- 50 ml of sea salt
- A spoon of wheat germ oil
- A few drops of orange oil
- A few drops of pomelo essential oils
I want to end again with a nice quote from a useful website (http://www.pilatesfornewmothers.com)
“Remember your skin is your largest organ and what you put on it goes directly into the blood stream and travels through your entire body. I love the rule: IF YOU WOULDN’T EAT IT, DON’T PUT IT ON YOUR SKIN. Definitely something to think about, hey?”
These are some nice recipes that I wanted to share with you! Now you know what to make with coconut cream. Thank you all for reading my post and hope you see you soon!
